The city council of Madrid has started penalising illegal holiday apartments that, despite being issued with a cease and desist order, have continued to operate their activity illegally. The fines range between €1,000 and €3,000, according to EFE.

Mariano Fuentes, a representative of ‘Desarrollo Urbano de Madrid’ (Urban Development in Madrid), stated his department’s intention to penalise landlords who continue to rent out tourist apartments illegally even after receiving a cease and desist order.
