The number of unemployed people registered with the public employment offices fell by 2.33% in July to 89,849, representing its largest drop in the seventh month of the year since 1997, according to data from the Ministry of Labour and the Social Economy. In this way, the total number of unemployed people in Spain amounted to 3,773,034.
The boost to the labour market in July was driven by the services sector, which was also the sector hardest hit by the healthcare crisis. Tourism, which is facing a summer with a drastic drop in business, led the recovery, itself driven by the hospitality industry.
