Mercadona has inaugurated a new logistics block in the Los Gavilanes industrial estate in the Madrid town of Getafe. The start-up of this block has meant the creation of 426 jobs, within a total workforce of 578 people currently working on site.
The new warehouse, which is now fully operational, complements the existing logistics facility in Ciempozuelos, which has been in operation for more than ten years. It will serve 89 shops in the provinces of Madrid, Guadalajara and Cuenca, in addition to the online warehouse, known as the “beehive”, which Mercadona also has in Getafe.
The new facility is an important investment by Mercadona, which is looking to guarantee and reinforce the service provided to shops in the country’s central area.
Mercadona’s new distribution centre required investments of 28 million euros and is located on a surface area of 96,000 square metres. It includes a dry goods warehouse, a built-up area of 47,000 square metres, and a fresh goods warehouse, where the cold storage and frozen food area is located, with a built-up area of 19,300 square metres.
