Barcelona Limits New Student Residences in the City Centre

On 27 May, in the plenary session of the Municipal Council, Barcelona City Council will approve a modification to the General Metropolitan Plan (MPGM) that will limit increases in the number of student residences in the city.

The council wants to regulate increases in the number of private student residences on community land. Currently, between projects already active and those planned, there are 79 residences in the city, with 13,800 beds on community land and other plots, in other words, those not classified as community. Of those residences, 18 have been approved in recent years and are in the process of obtaining their licenses.
