The number of new mercantile companies created fell by 9.8% in January compared to the same month in 2020, to reach a total of 7,811 new companies. Despite this decline, January saw the highest number of company constitutions since February 2020, just before the outbreak of the pandemic. That is according to data released on Thursday by the National Institute of Statistics (INE).
21.2% of the mercantile companies that were created in January 2021 are dedicated to commerce and 16.8% to real estate, finance and insurance. In addition, real estate, finance and insurance is the activity with the highest subscribed capital of the mercantile companies created, with 452.58 million euros in total. On the other hand, administrative activities and auxiliary services subscribed the lowest capital (1.89 million euros in total).
