Compared to the same period in 2020, real estate investment increased in Madrid and Barcelona by 201% and 186%, respectively.
In the second quarter of 2021, the contracting of logistics facilities in Madrid reached 283,460 m2, with 22 new contracts. This figure represents a fall of 18% compared to the first three months of the year.
However, this figure also represents an increase of 201% compared to the same period in 2020, when the coronavirus pandemic hit hard. Moreover, so far this year, take-up has reached 628,549 m2, 182% more than in the first half of 2020.
Considering the demand between January and June and the dynamism of the sector, it is expected that the number of logistics contracting in Madrid will return to record highs for the year as a whole, and could exceed the 1.2-million m2 barrier, according to BNP Paribas Real Estate.
