Investment in retirement and nursing homes and senior living is at an all-time high. According to Savills Aguirre Newman, investors piled four billion euros into the sector in Europe during the first half of the year.
This figure is 38% higher than the average for the last five years. The most active players were investment funds, pension funds, investment managers, socimis, financial institutions and developers. The countries that provided the most capital were the United Kingdom and Germany.
Within the different types of accommodation for senior citizens, 76% of the investment went to nursing homes. «Senior living is an emerging market that normally requires joint ventures and financing agreements,» the consulting firm explains.
Looking ahead to the end of 2021, it will again be a record year for the sector. On average, an investor earns an annual return of between 3.3% and 6% from operating the asset.
