According to the Association of Property, Mercantile and Real Estate Registrars of Spain, house sales fell by 15.4% in January. Specifically, the number of homes sold fell from 44,251 in the first month of 2020 to 37,416 in January this year.
Meanwhile, the signing of new mortgages also suffered a sharp decline. In January 2021, 35,224 mortgages were signed compared to 53,419 in January last year, which represents a decrease of 34.1%. In the case of mortgages taken out to buy a home, the drop amounted to 30.4% to reach 26,002 operations in January 2021.
