The price of housing is on the rise. At the national level, the cost of a home increased by 6.4% in 2021, according to the House Price Index (HPI) compiled by the National Institute of Statistics. That is the highest annual rise since the first quarter of 2019.
The annual rate for new build homes rose by two points, to 6.1%. In fact, new build house prices rose by 2.5% between the third and fourth quarters, while second-hand house prices increased by 1.0% during the same period.
