XPO Logistics has inaugurated a new transport and distribution centre in Castellbisbal, Barcelona. The 13,000-m2 platform has 104 docks and is built on a 37,000 square metre site. This is XPO’s largest cross-dock distribution centre on the Iberian Peninsula, making it one of XPO’s most important logistics hubs in Spain.
From the Castellbisbal hub, the company carries out general pallet, groupage and night delivery operations for Spain’s main companies in the textile, distribution, automotive, cosmetics, industrial and chemical sectors. XPO employs more than 120 people in a centre through which more than 200 carriers a day circulate.
The Castellbisbal hub can handle more than 3,400 pallets a day, representing 16% of the total number of pallets handled by XPO in Iberia. In addition, 4 XPO mega-trucks leave this centre every day to run the Barcelona – Madrid and Barcelona – Valencia routes. These vehicles are 25.25 metres long, allow 65% more cargo to be transported per shipment compared to traditional trucks and reduce carbon emissions per trip by up to 20%.
