The surface area approved for renovation and new construction in Spain amounted to 33.33 million square metres in 2022, which represents a decline of 2% compared to 2021 and equals the figure recorded in 2019, according to Cscae. That is primarily due to the decrease registered in the fourth quarter (-14.3%).
“Any construction work requires the mobilisation of a significant volume of resources and so, the increase in the prices of materials and, in the cost of living in general, due to inflation and the increase in the cost of energy is holding back investment,” says Marta Vall-llossera, President of the Superior Council of the Colleges of Architects of Spain (CSCAE).
