
In January, 39,314 mortgages were constituted over homes, up by 6.1% compared to the same month of 2019 and almost 30% more than in December. This is the best monthly figure since March 2011. The average loan amount was €114,691, which represented a decrease of 5%, according to data published on Thursday by the National Institute of Statistics (INE).
The average amount of the mortgages granted over all the properties recorded in the property registers fell to €129,387, down by 12.2% compared to January 2019. Meanwhile, the value of mortgages constituted over urban properties amounted to €6,973 million in total, down by 1.2%. In terms of home loans, the total capital loaned amounted to €4,509 million, which represented an annual increase of 0.8%.
