In total, 26,878 mortgages were constituted over homes and registered in the property registers in September, up by 18.4% compared to the same month in 2019, as reported on Monday by the National Institute of Statistics (INE), which highlighted that the data is provisional.
Thanks to this year-on-year growth, the signing of residential mortgages returned to positive territory after six consecutive months of negative interannual rates. After a 14.6% decrease in March, there was an 18.4% fall in April, a 27.6% reduction in May, a 12.7% decrease in June, a 23% fall in July and a 3.4% drop in August.
