The Government will Begin Granting Public Land for Affordable Housing in September

The Secretary-General for Housing and the Urban Agenda, David Lucas, has announced that the first public land transfers will take place in Valencia and that others are underway in Málaga, Sevilla and Barcelona.

Last week, as part of the aid plan to improve access to housing and revive the Spanish economy following the impact of Covid-19, the Council of Ministers approved the transfer of land for free – until now a fee has been paid – to build rental homes at affordable prices.

Now, the Head of Housing at the Ministry of Transport, F. David Lucas, has revealed more details about the initiative, including the start date of the transfers and their locations. “The first development where the transfer of public land will begin is located in Valencia” and it will probably happen in September. However, “there are other developments in Mallorca, Málaga and Sevilla,” explained the Secretary-General for Housing and the Urban Agenda during a real estate meeting organised by Expansión and Acciona.
