The slow progress of urban planning processes in Spain has caused delays of up to several decades in the approval of certain large projects. The delays in administrative management and in the legalisation of urban processes have become a major problem for the real estate sector.
The Government is aware of the issue and, for this reason, is finalising a law that will provide legal certainty for the management of cities and simplify processes to reduce the time needed for urban planning, according to David Lucas Parrón, General Secretary for the Urban Agenda and Housing. Mr Lucas was speaking at a meeting organised by the Madrid College of Economists. He indicated that he hopes that “a law that gives legal certainty for urban planning can be approved” this year.
