The Government Eliminates the Fee for Property Developers when Granting Public Land for Social Rental Homes

The Council of Ministers has also approved the extension until the end of September of the application period for moratoriums on mortgages and on rental payments to large property owners or public companies.

These are some of the measures included in a battery of initiatives for the residential market that the Executive approved at the Council of Ministers on Tuesday. Today’s Council of Ministers was attended by: the Minister of Finance, María Jesús Montero; the Vice President and Minister of Social Rights and the Agenda for 2030, Pablo Iglesias; the Minister of Justice, Juan Carlos Campo; and the Minister of Transport, Mobility and the Urban Agenda, José Luis Ábalos.

In this way, with the measure unveiled by Mr. Ábalos, the administrations (which in the case of the State is Sepes), will improve the bidding conditions for public land available to private companies for the construction and management of social rental homes for 75 years to incentivise them to build homes and rent them out at affordable prices. Rights to the land may be granted without the payment of a fee by the entity that receives the right to use it, although the text issued by the minister does not rule out fees completely, in order words, it does not force their elimination.
