The Governing Council of the European Central Bank (ECB) has approved the launch of an emergency program, to combat the coronavirus crisis through the acquisition of public and private assets, worth up to €750 billion and which will be in force until the end of 2020, according to El Mundo.
With this new purchase program, which was agreed after an emergency meeting of the Governing Council, the ECB aims to “counter the serious risks for the transmission mechanism of its monetary policy and for the outlook for the eurozone posed by the outbreak and growing spread of the coronavirus, Covid-19, ”according to an official statement.
