Renta Corporación has purchased a 16,500 m2 plot of land in Hospitalet de Llobregat (Barcelona), looking to build a data centre and three industrial warehouses next year, the company announced Thursday.
In total, the company will invest 14 million euros in the development, an operation that has been advised by the real estate consultancy firm CBRE.
As Renta Corporación explained in a note, this operation represents a new commitment by the company to a booming segment, as the growth of e-commerce has boosted demand for logistics facilities. In addition, the ongoing digitalisation of the economy, which accelerated during the coronavirus pandemic, has increased demand for data centres, positioning Barcelona as a digital logistics hub for southern Europe.
Following the demolition of the existing buildings on the site, the real estate company will divide the land, on which it will build a 10,000-m2 data centre. It will also construct three industrial buildings with a total above-ground surface area of 8,500 m2 and 2,500 m2 below ground.
Located in the former Basf and Stahl chemical plant, the asset is situated on the Carretera del Mig in Hospitalet, close to the Port of Barcelona and El Prat Airport.
