Non-Hotel Overnight Stays Fell by 58.8% in 2020, According to INE

The overall decline in the tourism sector was exacerbated by the drop in foreign tourism, with overnight stays by foreigners falling by 73.9% YoY.

In 2020, there were 52.2 million overnight stays in non-hotel tourist accommodation (apartments, campsites, rural houses and hostels), which represents a 58.8% drop compared to 2019, according to the National Institute of Statistics (INE).

By tourist nationality, 32.5 million overnight stays were made by domestic tourists and 19.7 million by international tourists. The YoY falls in each case amounted to 36.5% and 73.9%, respectively.
