Mortgage Debt for Housing Rose by 5.5% During the Third Quarter

Mortgage debt for housing grew by 5.5% during the third quarter despite a fall in the number of mortgages signed. The average amount loaned was 136,895 euros, according to the registrars.

After six consecutive months of negative interannual rates, the number of mortgages constituted over homes (and recorded in the property registers) increased by 18.4% in September compared to the same month in 2019, to reach 26,878, according to data from the National Institute of Statistics (INE).

However, in the total calculation for the third quarter, the number of mortgages constituted over dwellings decreased by 5.1%; compared to a fall of 17.8% registered between April and June, according to data from the Association of Property Registrars of Spain.
