Major Investment Funds Slow Down Their Investments in Spain, Halting Ongoing Transactions

International investment firms such as Fortress, Bain Capital and Bayview are opting to look for potential investments in southern European markets outside of Spain, putting operations such as the sale of NPL's in Santander and Sabadell on hold.

The legal uncertainty is fuelled by announcements by the government regarding housing and the increase in cases of squatting in Spain, in addition to measures such as mortgage moratoriums, making the market for real estate loans less attractive to international funds.

Major investment funds such as Bain Capital, Fortress and Bayview seem to share this view, ordering their respective teams in southern Europe to seek opportunities outside the Spanish market. According to an article in El Confidencial, the funds are opting to focus on the Italian and Greek markets.
