Investment in Shopping Centres Grew by 41% to €1.35 Billion in 2020, Despite Covid

Investors spent 1.35 billion euros buying shopping centres and retail parks in 2020, 41.1% more than in 2019. In addition, six new shopping centres were opened and none were closed.

The retail sector is going through a difficult time due to severe capacity and opening hour restrictions, as well as the temporary closures as a result of the pandemic. However, the volume of shopping centre and retail park purchases in 2020 exceeded those executed a year earlier.

In this way, investors spent 1.35 billion euros on the purchase of eleven shopping centres and retail parks last year, which represents an increase of 41.1% compared to 2019, when the figure stood at 957 million euros, according to annual data compiled by the Spanish Association of Shopping Centres and Retail Parks (AECC).
