Investment in Buy-to-Rent Exceeded €600 Million in the First Half of 2020

Investment in rental housing is not decreasing in 2020 despite Covid, with large operations being closed in the Spanish market by established firms and new players alike.

Investment in rental housing, known in real estate jargon as ‘build-to-rent (BTR), is beginning to consolidate itself as a prominent business in Spain.

After years of being relegated to a handful of social housing developments, in 2019, the BTR segment started to take hold in Spain with an investment of €2.5 billion. During the first six months of 2020, spending on rental housing projects by international investors exceeded 600 million euros, according to figures from the real estate consultancy JLL.
