In March, housing sales rose by 32.4% year-on-year, the fastest increase since July 2019, as reported this Friday by the National Statistics Institute (INE).
But, as Spanish notaries had warned on the day before, one must keep in mind that the year-on-year figure, though high, is in comparison to March 2020, when the coronavirus pandemic had already shut the country down for two weeks, severely limiting the number of transactions.
With the year-on-year increase in March, housing sales are back in positive territory after having fallen by 15.4% and 4.3% respectively in January and February.
