House Sales Fell by 17.7% in 2020, the Largest Decrease in Nine Years

The health crisis caused house sales to fall by 17.7% in 2020, to 415,748 operations, the largest decline since 2011, according to the INE.

House sales decreased by 17.7% in 2020 compared to the previous year, registering a total of 415,748 transactions. That figure represents the biggest YoY decrease in nine years and the lowest number of transactions since 2016, according to data from the National Institute of Statistics (INE).

With this annual decline, house sales have seen two consecutive years of decreases. However, the reduction recorded in 2020, a year marked by the outbreak of the pandemic, was much higher than that experienced in 2019: 2.4%.
