House Sales Fell by 16.6% YoY in Q3, According to the Registrars

The number of house sales fell by 16.6% year-on-year in the third quarter although they recovered from the impasse of lockdown, according to data from the College of Registrars.

The Real Estate Activity Registry Index (IRAI) prepared by the College of Registrars recorded an annual contraction of -3.6% during the third quarter of the year, whereby moderating the decrease registered in the second quarter (-10.7%), when it was hit hardest by the restrictions resulting from the State of Emergency. Specifically, the property section, which comprises sales and mortgages, contracted by -6.5%.

In terms of sectoral indicators, 102,197 house sales were recorded in the registries during the third quarter, which represented a reduction of -16.6% compared to the same period in 2019.
