The purchase of private homes by foreigners has returned to negative territory, after the slight increase recorded during the second half of 2019. During the first half of this year, which was inevitably characterised by the onset of the Covid crisis, 32,395 operations were registered, down by 37.4% compared to the same period a year earlier, according to data published by the General Council of Notaries.
We have to go back to the first half of 2014 to find a lower figure than that registered between January and June of this year, according to the statistical series from the notaries. Transactions carried out by foreign buyers represented 17.3% of all home purchases carried out in Spain during that period.
