Overnight stays in hotel establishments plummeted by 78.4% in September compared to the same month in 2019, from almost 37.5 million to 8.1 million, due to the effect of the pandemic, according to data from the National Institute of Statistics (INE ).
The number of hotels actually open decreased from 13,008 in August to 12,202 in September, representing a reduction of 26.8% in interannual terms. As such, the number of hotel beds on offer during the ninth month of the year stood at just over one million, equivalent to 52.1% of the total supply.
