The foreclosure statistics published on Friday by the National Institute of Statistics (INE) reveal the first year-on-year increase in 20 quarters (five years). In total, 1,668 habitual dwellings were foreclosed during the first quarter, up by 20.8% compared to the previous quarter and by 9.3% compared to the same period in 2019.
The data from INE also includes information about plots of land, non-habitual dwellings and other properties, which performed positively. The total number of inscriptions for foreclosure certificates initiated (which includes private individuals and legal entities) and the total number of properties in the property registers during the first quarter of 2020 was 10,558, which is 18.0% less than during the previous quarter and 29.8% less than during the same quarter in 2019.
