Home Buyers are Paying up to €39,000 Extra due to Licence Delays

The delay in the granting of licenses by City Councils is resulting in extra costs for home buyers, ranging from more than €26,000 in Barcelona to €39,000 in Majadahonda.

The delay in the granting of new building and first occupancy licences is costing buyers 12,802 euros per home, according to the report entitled Urban Planning Licences: The Invisible Tax, prepared by the Association of Real Estate Developers of Madrid (ASPRIMA) together with EY Lawyers (the tax and legal advice team from ​​the professional services firm EY).

The research analyses delays in the granting of urban planning licenses and the consequent costs in ten Spanish municipalities, specifically: Madrid, Majadahonda, Las Rozas, San Sebastián de los Reyes, Pozuelo de Alarcón (all in the Community of Madrid), Barcelona, ​​Málaga, Palma de Mallorca, Valencia and Zaragoza.
