Home Market CPI Rises Six...

CPI Rises Six-Tenths in June to -0.3% Driven by the Price of Petrol and Electricity

The Consumer Price Index (CPI) rose by 0.5% in June in relation to the previous month and by six tenths in year-on-year terms to reach -0.3%, compared to -0.9% in May.

The inter-annual CPI has broken a four-month streak of decreases and recorded three consecutive months of negative rates, according to the indicator published on Monday by the National Institute of Statistics (INE). In this way, the Consumer Price Index rose by 0.5% in June in relation to the previous month and by six tenths in year-on-year terms to reach -0.3%, compared to -0.9% in May.

The statistics agency attributed the increase in the interannual rate of CPI to a rise in the cost of electricity and fuel, compared to the drop in the prices of those staples in June 2019.
