The new law that regulates rental prices in 60 Catalan municipalities came into force on Tuesday. Following the approval by the Catalan Parliament on 9 September of the initiative promoted by the Tenants’ Union, yesterday it was published in the Official Gazette of the Generalitat (DOGC), just ahead of the new regulations coming into force.

The law, which will apply in the 60 Catalan municipalities that have more than 20,000 inhabitants, establishes that rental prices cannot increase compared to the previous rental contract and that if the rent for a given house exceeds the average rent for the area, then the new contract may not exceed the Generalitat’s price index.
