Brits continue to lead the international residential purchase segment, representing 14% of all purchases by foreigners in Spain during 2019. Nevertheless, that figure is somewhat lower than in 2018 when they accounted for 15.5% of the total.
The analysis that Sonneil, a Spanish proptech specialising in the commercialisation of second homes, has performed using data from the College of Registrars’ most recent annual, highlights that 62,732 second homes were sold to foreigners in 2019, accounting for 12 % of all house sales in Spain.
Despite the fact that this represents a slight decrease with respect to 2018 (-4%), the data reflects a recovery in the sector after years of crisis. Specifically, the 2019 figure represents an increase of almost 250% compared to 2009, when the lowest number of sales to foreigners was recorded.
