The Spanish investment manager Azora, through its hotel fund Azora European Hotel & Leisure, F.C.R. (“AEHL”), has finalised its acquisition of Bluserena SPA, the second-largest operator of holiday resorts in Italy, from the Maresca family.
Founded in 1985 by Carlo Maresca, Bluserena manages a portfolio of 13 hotels, eight of which it owns directly, spanning the main Italian tourist spots, including Sardinia, Sicily, Apulia, Abruzzo, Piedmont and Calabria.
The portfolio acquired by Azora, which has over 4,200 rooms, comprises eleven 4-star hotels (villaggi) and two five-star resorts.
The operation includes both the hotels and the operating company, which will remain in Pescara (Abruzzo). The deal aims to strengthen the Bluserena brand by implementing a 30-million-euro investment programme intended to reposition the establishments and improve customer satisfaction.
