Cataluña is on course to become the first region in Spain to regulate the price of rental housing. In July, the political parties JxCat, ERC, En Comú Podem and the CUP presented a draft bill to the Parliament of Cataluña to limit residential rental prices, which is expected to be voted on soon.
Asval, the Rental Housing Association, opposes the bill to regulate and control rental prices on the basis that “it violates the Spanish Constitution, infringes upon the right to private property and will promote an underground economy in Cataluña’s rental market”.
