Foreign investors see the student residence sector in Spain as an investment opportunity. The latest firm to join the fray has been the Dutch group Student Experience, which has as a capital partner the family office Rinkelberg Capital, created by the founders of TomTom.
Its founder and CEO, Johan Verweij, explained that its pipeline in Spain includes five projects, totalling 5,000 beds. Student Experience currently has one under construction in Pozuelo (Madrid) and wants to develop others in Granada, Malaga, Valencia, Valladolid and Bilbao. “We almost have permission to build in Granada. It is important that we not only have projects in Madrid, we are also looking at Valladolid,” he adds.
The project in Granada, in the centre of the Parque Tecnológico de La Salud, will have 520 places for Spanish and international students. It is scheduled to open in 2023. Adding this and the one in Pozuelo would bring its portfolio in Spain to 1,200 units.
Its international pipeline consists of four assets currently operating in Amsterdam, with 2,300 beds, and another set to open in 2025. Its objective is to reach 10,000 beds over the next few years.
