The ‘20,000 Plan’ from the Ministry of Transport, Mobility and the Urban Agenda (Mitma), which aims to create the public stock of affordable rental housing in Spain, is beginning to take shape. The Minister for the Urban Agenda, José Luis Ábalos, has unveiled a project that aims to place the country at a level closer to its pioneering European partners in terms of public rental homes.
In Spain, only 2.5% of the residential stock is in the hands of the Administration, a percentage that is well below that seen in France (17%), Austria (24%), Denmark and the Netherlands (both 30%), according to data from the statistical office Eurostat. To this end, the Ministry is working on more than 20,800 homes that it has already identified.
